Fall into Winter . . .


Winter is here . . . we have a bit more than a foot of snow on the ground and the moose are finishing up their rutting season . . . so the boys are all decked out . . . here is an angle, just for Pat's butt collection . . . ;)

Musk Ox Farm

Very interesing creatures . . . total of 66 at the farm on this day. Combed for Quviet in April each year . . . Quviet sent to Rhode Island for processing into yarn, then the yarn is sent to local villages in Alaska for knitting into products.

Goliath - 4 year old male in rut

Farm is 57 years into a process for making the oomingmak into a domesticated animal. They live to be 12 to 20 years old . . . eat about 10 lbs of vegitation per week and use all the nutrition, thier excriment has no nutritional value . . .

Hiway rest stop in Denali State Park . . . still a bit early to try to use this stop! . . . it is like the Denali overlook pull outs . . . both north and south still packed with snow . . .
